Bookbinding

I’ve been thinking about bookbinding a lot lately, so of course the first thing I thought of when I came to Dollhouse Rebuilding is 1/12th scale books.  The next thing I thought about was that I want to build a diorama room of a bookbinder’s workshop.  I’m going to finish off a couple of other projects I have underway then get to work on making a bookbinder’s workshop.

Wood

I’m looking for a good wood to use in building doll houses, at the moment I am thinking about 1/8th inch thick Birch plywood, which is what I have used for years in making hand-bound books.  Any suggestions are greatly welcomed by anyone that can think of, or knows of, a better wood to use.  I’m going to be doing some research online, see what I can find out about the best thing to use for constricting dollhouses.

Donations to Save My Parents’ House

I have set up an area where people can make donations to the cause of helping me to save my parents’ house.  All money donated to this cause will go directly into an account specifically for the purpose of helping me to save the house that my parents had intended for me to inherit.  I will be making a page about why the donations option has been set up and why I am trying to save the house, but for now I need to tend to caregiver stuff for my dad, so that will need to wait for a day or so before I can get it done.

Doll Houses to Save My Parents’ House

When I started this blog it was because of a love I have for doll houses, one which my mom shared with me. It was her and my dream to create doll houses and display them around the house. I had planned to make an entire street of dollhouses in the basement, and just a couple of days before she died my mom was suggesting that we take the doll houses we had, get them all fancied up, and mount them in the trees out in the yard as bird houses. And install an 8 foot tall cat-proof fence around the yard.

Because of that shared love, and a need to raise money to save my parents house, I am going to be working on the doll houses with one set goal in mind: raise money to save my parents’ house.  It won’t be easy, but I need to find some way to earn enough to pay off somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000 in debt against the house my parents had wanted to leave to me as a thank you payment for the lifetime I had set aside to take care of them.  Dollhouses seem like as good a way to raise money for the house as any other way I have come up with.

And fair warning – I’m also going to soon be implementing in-post advertising here.  I know a lot of people dislike that form of advertising, but it is the best way I know of to earn money and I do not want to lose my parent’s house.

1/12th scale props

Sitting looking at one of the doll houses that I have set aside for restoring, I am made aware of the need for props that I do not currently have.  Little decorative accent pieces that could be used to liven up scenes and such.  I can not at the moment justify buying anything like that, so I am going to consider making some props myself and will, if I do, share details on how I made them.
