I am in the process of converting a room into a workshop for my crafting projects, and part of that is going to be for the restoration and rebuilding and perhaps even design and building of new doll houses. It will take me a few days to finish getting the room reorganized and start getting things set up in there, I don’t expect to be ready to rebuild my first dollhouse before at the earliest Thanksgiving, although I might get it all ready before then. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

Something that I want to start creating – possibly for sale – are 1/12th scale dolls made for use in dollhouses. These would be one of a kind (OOAK) collectible dolls crafted for display purposes. When I get to the point I am able to make them (after my workroom is cleaned up and ready for working in) I will see if I can post some tutorials here about the process and how they are made as well as information on the dolls I am working on and have for sale.

My mom died in September, leaving me to take care of my dad alone. Her and I had shared the full-time job of being my dad’s fulltime caregivers, and now it is just me. I have brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews, but those who live nearby and are old enough to be of help are…. sporadic in their help. At best.
My parents had been planning to leave their home to me as a thank you and their only means of paying me for the years that I had spent setting my own life aside to serve as their caregiver. Last year the difficult decision had to be made to get a reverse mortgage on their home to help save the homes of several other family members from foreclosure due to the mortgage collapse stuff. Now I am trying to figure out how I can do the impossible – save my parent’s home so that my mom’s wish that I would own it comes true.
Part of the plans I have been making for how to do that are the possibility of building one of a kind dollhouses designed specifically for the purpose of selling them to help me save my parent’s home. I am going to look into the idea and see what I can do with it.

When you are looking to rebuild a dollhouse, the first thing that you have to get is the dollhouse that you will be wanting to rebuild. This can be a hunt through nostalgia as you sort through grandmother’s attic for the dollhouse you or your mother played with as a child, or a search for a hidden treasure waiting to be brought back to life waiting for discovery at a yard sale or thrift store.
Later through this weekend I am going to look more at where to hunt out these lovely mini buildings, and what to look for when you are trying to decide if it is something you want to dedicate your rebuild time to.
